DollhouseMCP — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
DollhouseMCP lets you create and activate personas, skills, templates, agents, and memories to shape how an AI works on your project.
claude mcp add mcp-server -- npx -y @dollhousemcp/mcp-serverWhat DollhouseMCP does
DollhouseMCP keeps these elements in a local portfolio: ~/.dollhouse/portfolio/ on macOS and Linux, or %USERPROFILE%\.dollhouse\portfolio\ on Windows. Describe an element in plain language to create it, edit one already there, or activate it. Active elements can change the AI’s behavior and add capabilities or permission policies.
For Claude Code, run the command in the FAQ. The server starts through npx using the @dollhousemcp/mcp-server package. You can also launch a browser setup wizard with npx @dollhousemcp/mcp-server@latest --web. Permission hooks vary by client: Cursor has partial native support, while Cline is limited to MCP setup in this release. That difference matters if your setup depends on permission hooks.
What it helps with
- create a persona for a project workflow
- add project-specific instructions as a skill
- activate an existing agent or ensemble
- revise a saved template
- browse and install community elements
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a skill for checking changes in this project.
- Show me the available Dollhouse personas and activate one for debugging.
- Update the code review persona to include a security check.
