miru — MCP server for Claude Code: semantic code search
Hybrid code search for AI coding agents. It finds relevant chunks by meaning, then hands the agent a path, line numbers and a snippet.
claude mcp add miru -e TAKARA_API_KEY=<TAKARA_API_KEY> -- npx -y @takara-ai/miru-codeWhat miru does
Four tools land in the agent: search, locate, expand and find_related. Ask where auth middleware gets configured and miru answers with the chunks that fit, so the agent skips the grep-and-glob loop it usually falls back on.
Setup runs through the CLI: install @takara-ai/miru-code globally with Bun, sign in with miru setup, then pick integrations in the miru install menu. That menu covers the MCP server, instruction files for CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md, a sub-agent, and Cursor rules. A plugin marketplace install also exists, though its feature set depends on what each IDE's plugin schema allows. In Cursor the plugin carries skills and rules only, with no MCP entry.
Credentials live per install. A plugin keeps its own copy in the IDE data directory, so signing in through the CLI does not carry over. Run both and you authenticate twice. Either way the server needs TAKARA_API_KEY set.
What it helps with
- locate auth middleware configuration without knowing the filename
- pull in the code around a change instead of reading a whole module
- give the agent context by intent rather than raw grep matches
- wire one code search server into several IDEs at once
Example prompts for the agent
- Where is authorization configured in this repo? Use miru
search. - Use
find_relatedto show what runs next to the payment handler. - Give me full context around this line with
expand.

Questions about miru
How do I install miru in Claude Code?
Pick one route. CLI: bun add -g @takara-ai/miru-code, then miru setup and miru install. Plugin marketplace: /plugin marketplace add takara-ai/miru-code, then /plugin install miru.
What does miru do?
It answers code questions by meaning and returns the matching chunk with its path and line range, replacing the plain text search your agent would otherwise run.
What do I need before miru will run?
A TAKARA_API_KEY. Store it with miru setup, which defaults to device-code login, or write a bearer token directly via miru setup --key YOUR_TOKEN.
