What mindmap-mcp-server does

The server acts as a shared local memory layer for desktop coding assistants. Once a task concludes in one editor, the model captures state to plain files in ~/.mindmap/. You can redirect this storage using the MINDMAP_DIR environment variable. Everything stays on the local disk.

Unused notes gradually cool down into single-line traces rather than disappearing. Picking up a topic again restores it to active memory. Users can organize records into collections like goals or paused tasks, which shields them from cooling down. Browser-based interfaces such as ChatGPT cannot reach this server because it exposes no external public endpoint.

Running the installer wires a SessionEnd hook directly into Claude Code. The process starts over stdio using npx.

What it helps with

  • transfer conversation context between separate AI editors
  • resume an unfinished task right where you paused
  • prevent important project decisions from decaying
  • share local session notes without third-party cloud sync

Example prompts for the agent

  • Save this session to mind map
  • Resume my work on the database migration
  • Show unfinished projects stored in memory
