MiCompress — Claude Code MCP server: file compression and setup

MiCompress compresses files through an MCP server and writes the result to disk. Use it to reduce project images, documents, or media files from your coding assistant.

What MiCompress does

Give the server a file path and it sends that file to micompress.com for compression, then saves the output locally. It handles images, PDFs and office documents, video, audio, and archives. list_supported_formats reports accepted extensions; compress_file returns the original and resulting sizes along with the output path. The model receives a summary rather than the file contents.

For Claude Code, the setup command below runs the server in Docker. Anonymous use has size caps that vary by file type; MICOMPRESS_API_KEY allows files up to 100 MB. Files leave your machine and go to a third-party service, so this setup is unsuitable for data you cannot send there.

What it helps with

  • shrink images in a project folder
  • compress a PDF and save the output locally
  • reduce video or audio file sizes
  • check which extensions the server accepts

Example prompts for the agent

  • Compress the images in assets.
  • Reduce report.pdf and save the result beside it.
  • Show me the file formats this server accepts.
