memeboat-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Searches meme templates and generates captioned images directly through your AI assistant. Helpful for sharing visual jokes or bug reactions in chat without opening an image editor.
claude mcp add --transport http memeboat-mcp https://memebo.at/mcpWhat memeboat-mcp does
The server hooks your assistant into the Memeboat catalog containing more than 25,000 image templates. When prompted, the model searches for a matching picture, overlays captions, and returns a direct link to the published meme.
Three tools handle the workflow: search_meme_templates scans for templates by topic, get_meme_template reads template dimensions and box counts, and create_meme posts text onto the graphic. You can customize font options, pick outline colors, or place captions above the image inside a header block using layout: "top".
All graphics render on the remote infrastructure, meaning local machines need no image manipulation binaries. Running too many requests will trigger the per-IP rate limit. While local stdio operation needs Node.js 18+, connecting to https://memebo.at/mcp over HTTP bypasses local package management entirely.
What it helps with
- find meme templates across a 25,000-item library by subject or title
- generate captioned meme graphics without touching a photo editor
- customize font styles, text colors, and caption banners via tool arguments
- obtain a public image link ready to share in issues and team chats
Example prompts for the agent
- Find a Buzz Lightyear template and caption it about endless code reviews
- Make a Drake meme with a red top caption rejecting legacy code and a bottom caption picking Go
