AdButler — Claude Code MCP server: campaigns and reports
Wires the AdButler ad platform into your AI assistant, so campaigns, zones, creatives, VAST and reports get built from the chat.
claude mcp add --transport http mcp-server https://mcp.adbutler.com/mcpWhat AdButler does
The server exposes the AdButler v2 API: over 600 tools for advertisers, campaigns, zones, creatives, placements, VAST video, programmatic and reporting. Nine workflow prompts ship with it and steer the assistant through a whole task — launching a campaign, setting up retail media, generating a report, building a VAST ad, configuring programmatic deals.
Two ways to connect. The hosted route needs only the URL https://mcp.adbutler.com/mcp plus an auth header, no Node or npm. Running locally with npx -y @adbutler/mcp-server keeps your key on your own machine and works against a self-hosted AdButler. Grab the key in the AdButler dashboard under Settings → API Keys.
On the hosted server a key typed into the chat lasts only for that session, since the service is multi-tenant and does not persist it. Pasting it over and over is a sign to move the key into your connection settings instead: an Authorization: Bearer header for Claude, Claude Desktop or Cursor, or the ?api_key= URL parameter for claude.ai custom connectors.
What it helps with
- spin up a campaign with a budget and attach it to a zone
- surface the weakest ad items by CTR over a week
- assemble a VAST pre-roll with companion banners
- configure a programmatic deal and its demand sources
- audit which zones have no active placements
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a campaign for the new client with a 5000 budget and assign it to the Homepage Banner zone
- List my worst-performing ad items by CTR for the last 7 days
- Run the
launch-campaignprompt and walk me through it

Questions about AdButler
How do I install AdButler in Claude Code?
For the hosted server run claude mcp add --transport http adbutler https://mcp.adbutler.com/mcp and add the auth header. For local stdio: claude mcp add --env ADBUTLER_API_KEY=<ADBUTLER_API_KEY> --transport stdio adbutler -- npx -y @adbutler/mcp-server.
What does the AdButler MCP server do?
It hands the assistant the AdButler v2 API tools: campaigns, zones, creatives, placements, VAST video, programmatic, reporting. The assistant works out the call sequence itself and reports back.
Why does my API key not stick between sessions?
A key entered in the chat on the hosted server is scoped to that session only. Put it in your connection config instead — an Authorization: Bearer header or the ?api_key= URL parameter — and later chats authenticate on their own.
