maven-tools-mcp — Claude Code MCP server for dependency analysis
Check JVM dependencies against Maven Central, review release health, and plan upgrades. Useful when auditing a project or assessing edits to a Maven POM.
claude mcp add maven-tools-mcp -- docker run -i --rm docker.io/arvindand/maven-tools-mcp:latestWhat maven-tools-mcp does
The server gives an AI client tools to look up versions, compare upgrades, assess release age and cadence, and check for known vulnerabilities and license details. Optional Context7 tools retrieve library documentation. Coordinate-based lookups also work with Gradle, SBT, and Mill projects.
For pom.xml analysis, it resolves versions through parent POMs, properties, and imported BOMs. Upgrade suggestions separate mechanical edits from changes that need review. The analysis covers declared dependencies rather than the full transitive graph, and only active-by-default profiles are included. Docker must be installed and running for this setup; without it, the server cannot start this way.
What it helps with
- find stable releases for JVM dependencies
- compare declared versions with available upgrades
- review dependencies for known CVEs and license concerns
- resolve versions in a
pom.xmlthrough parent POMs and BOMs - flag major upgrades and POM conflicts for review
Example prompts for the agent
- Check the dependencies in
pom.xmland flag updates with known vulnerabilities. - Compare my declared library versions with current stable releases.
- Analyze
pom.xml, identify BOM conflicts, and suggest upgrades that need review.
