Mako — Claude Code MCP server: query databases, check SQL
Wires your agent into a Mako workspace so it can browse database schemas, test SQL, and build data apps from your queries.
claude mcp add --transport http mako https://app.mako.ai/api/mcpWhat Mako does
Mako is a browser-based SQL client, and its MCP server hands the same workspace to your agent. From there it can look through connected databases, run a query check before you execute it, and publish a data app.
The endpoint is https://app.mako.ai/api/mcp over HTTP. In Claude one line does it: claude mcp add. Codex takes codex mcp add. Cursor and GitHub Copilot get a JSON block in their own config.
Nothing works without a Mako account and databases already hooked up inside that account. The agent only sees the connections your workspace holds, so set those up first.
What it helps with
- inspect a connected database schema without leaving the chat
- test SQL before running it against production data
- turn a finished query into a data app
- jump between databases set up in a Mako workspace
Example prompts for the agent
- List the tables in my Mako workspace and find where orders live
- Check this SQL query for mistakes before I run it
- Build a data app charting monthly sales

Questions about Mako
How do I install Mako in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http mako https://app.mako.ai/api/mcp. That adds the server and its HTTP endpoint in one step.
What does the Mako MCP server do?
It exposes a Mako workspace to the agent: browsing databases, validating SQL, and building data apps against your data.
What do I need before connecting it?
A Mako account with at least one database connection. The server has nothing to explore until those exist in the workspace.
