LocalCloud MCP — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects your coding agent to a local Docker-based Google Cloud runtime for tests and debugging. Useful when building cloud services without incurring live provider fees.
Open on GitHubWhat LocalCloud MCP does
The tool manages a local Google Cloud emulation container through the host CLI localcloud (aliased lc). Its MCP bridge exposes actions for provisioning resources, seeding fixtures, checking readiness, and resetting state directly within the agent workflow. Existing application code calls regular Google Cloud client libraries: running eval "$(lc env)" sets environment variables to point endpoints to loopback.
Up to 27 services run inside a single container, including Storage, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Spanner, and Bigtable. Data survives container restarts thanks to a named Docker volume. The CLI validates emitted endpoints to prevent requests from routing out to production googleapis.com infrastructure.
Running the stack requires Docker Engine, Docker Desktop, Colima, OrbStack, or Rancher Desktop with at least 4 GiB of memory assigned. On Apple Silicon, configure the Docker VM with VZ and Rosetta rather than QEMU, which triggers known failures in the BigQuery emulator.
What it helps with
- Emulate Google Cloud services locally without creating live paid infrastructure
- Grant coding agents tools to provision and reset cloud state via MCP
- Persist test datasets across restarts using a named Docker volume
- Configure client library environment variables for loopback endpoints
Example prompts for the agent
- "Check the LocalCloud environment status with
lc doctor" - "Start LocalCloud services and export environment variables for client libraries"
- "Create a test Pub/Sub topic and Storage bucket inside the local container"

Questions about LocalCloud MCP
How to set up LocalCloud MCP in Claude Code?
Install the localcloud CLI and verify a Docker runtime is active. Running lc start starts the container and makes the MCP bridge accessible to your coding agent.
What does LocalCloud MCP do?
It bridges AI coding agents with a local container running 27 emulated Google Cloud services. Agents can provision test schemas, seed data, and run diagnostics without live cloud credentials.
What are the hardware requirements for LocalCloud?
Assign at least 4 GiB of RAM to your Docker container runtime. On Apple Silicon, select VZ with Rosetta instead of QEMU to prevent BigQuery emulator crashes.
