LibreJustice — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects Claude Code to French and European legal databases, linking court rulings with legislative texts. Helpful for legal research and compliance checks.
claude mcp add --transport http librejustice https://librejustice.fr/mcpWhat LibreJustice does
The server queries a combined database of roughly 3.8 million court rulings and 3.9 million statutory articles. It refreshes daily from public repositories. Instead of separating court orders from legislative codes, the engine cross-references citations directly. Decisions link to exact statutory versions, and articles trace back to relevant case law.
Four tools handle the legal corpus: search_decisions, get_decision, search_norms, and get_norm. Searches combine lexical matching and semantic vector retrieval. Machine summaries stay strictly distinct from verbatim quotes.
Connecting via MCP requires no manual API keys because the remote endpoint handles OAuth 2.1 dynamic client registration. Self-hosting, however, demands a specialized Rust environment alongside PostgreSQL with ParadeDB and VectorChord extensions.
What it helps with
- locate French administrative and judicial court rulings by factual summary
- retrieve statutory text as enacted on an exact historical date
- map judicial decisions that cited a specific legal article
- extract automated summaries without mixing them with official rulings
Example prompts for the agent
- Use LibreJustice to search for French Court of Cassation decisions on abnormal neighborhood disturbance.
- Run
get_normto retrieve article 1240 of the French Civil Code in effect during 2021. - Find Conseil d'État rulings citing public procurement regulations.
