Legislative Yuan — Claude Code MCP server: use and setup
This MCP server connects coding agents to Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan API. Use it to look up bills, laws, meetings, legislators, votes, gazettes, and IVOD records.
claude mcp add ly-mcp -- uvx lymcpWhat Legislative Yuan does
Legislative Yuan exposes Taiwan Legislative Yuan API v2 through an MCP server. It provides 42 tools covering bills, committees, meetings, gazettes, interpellations, IVOD videos, laws, legislators, and votes. Successful calls return the upstream JSON payload; failures use a machine-readable JSON error envelope with a failure type and HTTP status.
The server runs with uvx lymcp and supports filters such as term, session, date, committee, legislator, law status, and bill category. Several recurring workflows have dedicated MCP prompts, including plenary-meeting bill lookup, law amendment history, legislator proposal records, and vote records.
Date questions need a clear mode: latest known, latest occurred, or next scheduled. Results depend on the Taiwan Legislative Yuan API v2; local development requires Python 3.12+, uv, and just.
What it helps with
- find bills by term, category, or sponsor
- trace the amendment history of a law
- review a legislator’s proposals and votes
- retrieve meeting records with related IVOD videos
- filter gazettes and their agenda entries
Example prompts for the agent
- List legal bills from term 11 and include their filing dates.
- Trace the amendment history of the Labor Standards Act and link each stage to its bills.
- Show this legislator’s votes in term 11 and report the position recorded for each one.
