kogcat-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Local-first calibration layer that highlights blind spots and counterexamples straight from your own notes.
claude mcp add kogcat-mcp -- uvx kogcat-mcpWhat kogcat-mcp does
This MCP server links your coding agent to an on-device repository of notes and decisions. It is built specifically for trade-offs and reviews where bad assumptions prove expensive. When evaluating difficult questions, the client calls tools like calibrate, calibrate_review, edges, search, and the memory_* family to spot discrepancies between model output and your recorded experience.
The service runs locally via a sidecar process. On its initial launch, it pulls down a 40 MB engine alongside an embedding model of roughly 90 MB. No private notes or calibration results leave the host environment.
Running this tool requires macOS on Apple Silicon or Windows x86_64; Linux and Intel Mac hardware are unsupported. You must also have uv installed and Python 3 present on your system PATH.
What it helps with
- surface blind spots in design tradeoffs using private notes
- retrieve local counterexamples before executing risky architectural changes
- inspect cached memory nodes and relationships during development sessions
- validate strategic technical decisions without cloud data leakage
Example prompts for the agent
- Use KogCat to spot potential blind spots in this database migration plan
- Run a calibration check against my local knowledge base for this design choice
- Consult KogCat to verify if we documented any counterexamples for this pattern
