indexio — Claude Code MCP server: code search and setup
indexio indexes Git repositories and gives coding agents tools for code, symbol, and call-graph search. Use it when agents need context across repositories.
claude mcp add indexio -- npx -y indexioWhat indexio does
indexio builds a local index of repositories and exposes it to coding agents through MCP or an HTTP API. The agent can search source code, locate symbols and callers, inspect file sections, and check the likely impact of a symbol or diff.
It runs as a single Rust binary. The index is stored in ~/.indexio, so no database or external service is involved, and the data directory can be copied to another machine. Run indexio add ~/code to register Git repositories under a folder, then connect the server to the client.
git must be available on PATH before setup. After registering the server, restart the agent session so it loads the new MCP connection.
What it helps with
- search across indexed repositories
- locate symbol definitions and callers
- inspect a selected file range
- trace the impact of a symbol change
- check indexed repositories and file counts
Example prompts for the agent
- Find every caller of
parse_configand show the related files. - Tell me which files may be affected by changing
UserService.create. - Search the indexed repositories for TODO items about configuration handling.
