What hypertool-mcp does

hypertool-mcp installs as a regular MCP server and runs locally. You point it at a config of your existing servers, and it registers tools dynamically based on the active toolset or persona. The agent sees the five commands that matter instead of fifty.

Toolsets are built on the fly. Ask the agent to create one from git and docker, then switch to it with a single call. Personas go further: they bundle MCP servers with pre-built toolsets, added via hypertool-mcp persona add and launched with --persona. A persona can run alongside your own servers if you also pass --mcp-config.

Context measurement is built in. The list-available-tools and get-active-toolset tools show a token estimate per tool and its share of the context window, which is how you spot the heavy ones and drop them. Toolset management lives in a separate configuration mode, so it stays out of your working tools.

What it helps with

  • keep unused MCP tools out of the context window
  • build a toolset for one task and swap between toolsets
  • connect many MCP servers without a bloated tool list
  • estimate token cost per tool
  • start from a ready-made server bundle instead of configuring one

Example prompts for the agent

  • Switch to the coding toolset
  • Show the active toolset and token usage per tool

Questions about hypertool-mcp

How do I install hypertool-mcp in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add hypertool-mcp -- npx -y @toolprint/hypertool-mcp.

What does hypertool-mcp do?

It proxies your MCP servers and exposes only the tools in the active toolset or persona. Toolsets can be created and switched mid-session.

How do personas differ from standard mode?

A persona ships its own MCP servers and pre-built toolsets, so there is nothing to configure. Standard mode uses your own config through --mcp-config.
