hwatu — Claude Code MCP server for UI verification

hwatu lets coding agents inspect web pages in headless WebKit, query the DOM, capture screenshots, and compare images. Use it to check frontend changes before handing them off.

What hwatu does

The server exposes page checks to an agent: it can evaluate a DOM expression, capture a screenshot, and compare that image with another session. hwatu check combines page loading, evaluation, and a screenshot; hwatu verify runs a project check from a configuration file. Results can include console and loading details.

Sessions run without a visible window by default. Use hwatu focus <id> to bring an existing session onscreen for a person, with its state intact. Installation needs the static binary and the distro’s webkitgtk-6.0; the installer checks for that library, so the browser cannot start without it. Connect an agent with hwatu setup, or configure the MCP server manually.

What it helps with

  • compare page screenshots before and after a change
  • read a page title through the DOM
  • capture a screenshot and console details in one call
  • hand a headless browser session to a person

Example prompts for the agent

  • Check localhost:5173, read its title from the DOM, and save a screenshot to /tmp/after.png.
  • Compare sessions 2 and 1, saving the difference heatmap to /tmp/heat.png.
  • Verify the settings page change, then bring the browser session onscreen for a manual check.
