mcp · hookline-org — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Generates temporary webhook endpoints, captures incoming payloads, and lets coding agents validate requests directly in your editor.
claude mcp add mcp -e HOOKLINE_API_KEY=<HOOKLINE_API_KEY> -- npx -y @hookline/mcpWhat mcp does
This server connects coding assistants to Hookline tooling. Through dedicated MCP tools, agents spin up disposable URLs, wait for external HTTP calls, and verify JSON structures against configured validation rules. External headers and payloads arrive wrapped in <untrusted_external_data> sections to limit indirect prompt injection risks.
Available tools depend on your token scope. Starting the process with a read-only HOOKLINE_API_KEY prevents write tools like create_endpoint or set_mock_response from loading. Without Node 20 or an active API token, the process aborts on startup with an immediate 401 status.
What it helps with
- create temporary webhook URLs for testing incoming events
- inspect received HTTP headers and payloads without leaving the IDE
- compare differences between two incoming JSON structures
- mock webhook responses for connected third-party services
Example prompts for the agent
- Generate a new webhook endpoint and return its receiving URL.
- Wait for the next request arriving at the endpoint and validate its payload.
- Compare the latest payload against the previous webhook request.

Questions about mcp
How to install mcp in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add mcp -e HOOKLINE_API_KEY=<HOOKLINE_API_KEY> -- npx -y @hookline/mcp in your terminal with your agent key.
What does the Hookline MCP server do?
It lets your agent register test webhook URLs, listen for incoming traffic, and check payload schemas against Hookline rules.
How does read-only mode affect available tools?
The server inspects token permissions during initialization. Read-only tokens never register mutating actions, leaving only query and inspection tools active.
