What hood-mcp does

hood-mcp ships two servers. The data one, also called hood-mcp, needs no key and no wallet — it talks to the public Robinhood Chain RPC (chain ID 4663) and answers tool calls right away. Nine tools cover chain stats, the Stock Token registry, quotes from Chainlink and Uniswap, a portfolio lookup by address, per-token price and liquidity, trending pools, recent launches, and token search by ticker or address.

The trading server, hood-mcp-trading, is a separate stdio-only binary. It will not start unless both HOOD_MCP_ENABLE_TRADING=1 and ROBINHOOD_CHAIN_PRIVATE_KEY are set. Mutating calls are valued in USD and checked against HOOD_MCP_MAX_SPEND_USDG per call and HOOD_MCP_MAX_SESSION_USDG per session before anything is signed. The first execute_swap or transfer_usdg call returns a simulation only; broadcasting takes a second call with confirm: true and identical arguments.

Stock Tokens are tokenized debt securities, and they may not be sold or delivered to people in the US, Canada, the UK or Switzerland. The gate lives in the code and the front end, so a Stock Token buy without HOOD_MCP_ACKNOWLEDGE_ELIGIBILITY=1 throws. Memecoins carry no such restriction. The public RPC is enough to start; ALCHEMY_KEY swaps in a private one if you have it.

What it helps with

  • check a Stock Token quote against its Uniswap price
  • pull a portfolio and USDG balance for an address
  • find a token by ticker or contract address
  • watch for new chain launches
  • run a swap behind a spend cap and a confirm step

Example prompts for the agent

  • Show Robinhood Chain stats: latest block, gas price, TVL
  • Get the Stock Token quote for this ticker and compare it to Uniswap
  • Check this address's portfolio and USDG balance

Questions about hood-mcp

How do I install hood-mcp in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add hood-mcp -e ALCHEMY_KEY=<ALCHEMY_KEY> -- npx -y hood-mcp. The Alchemy key is optional; without it the server uses the public RPC.

What does hood-mcp do?

It hands your agent Robinhood Chain data: chain stats, the Stock Token registry, quotes, portfolios, trending pools and recent launches. A separate hood-mcp-trading server handles swaps and USDG transfers, and only when you turn it on.

Do I need a wallet to use hood-mcp?

Not for the data server — no API key, no wallet. A private key is only needed by the trading server, alongside HOOD_MCP_ENABLE_TRADING=1.
