Graphicle — Claude Code MCP server: code graph and project memory

Turns a repository into a code graph, keeps your project's notes, and hands the agent excerpts with file and line references. Runs locally.

What Graphicle does

Graphicle maps the repository into a graph of symbols, files and calls. Alongside it sits project memory: your docs, the decisions you made, earlier agent sessions. Ask a question and the server answers with slices of both, each tagged with the file it came from and the line numbers, so the agent's claim can be checked.

The whole thing is one Rust binary. The code graph, the memory, an MCP server, a browser view for the graph and the CLI ship together, backed by a single SQLite file. No API key to fetch, no account, no telemetry. Setup goes through a Homebrew package, then graphicle setup inside the repo: it indexes the code, connects whatever agents it finds, starts recording sessions, appends a short section to AGENTS.md and installs Git hooks. Every file it touches gets backed up and listed, and graphicle disconnect reverses the lot.

The Windows build is a preview and not code-signed yet. Nothing leaves the machine unless you ask, except a daily release check that GRAPHICLE_NO_UPDATE_NOTIFIER=1 silences. Memory an agent proposes sits waiting for your approval before anyone relies on it. On finding code the authors measured parity with grep and claim no token savings, so treat the citations as the point, not a speedup.

What it helps with

  • locate where failed requests get retried in a large repo
  • give a coding agent code excerpts that cite file and line
  • keep project decisions available in later agent sessions
  • see which places an edit to one symbol touches
  • wire one MCP server into several editors at once

Example prompts for the agent

  • Use graphicle to find where failed requests are retried
  • Ask graphicle how tax gets added to prices
  • Run graphicle doctor and tell me what failed

Questions about Graphicle

How do I install Graphicle in Claude Code?

Run brew install graphicle-ai/tap/graphicle, then graphicle setup from the repository root. Setup detects the agents on your machine and connects them.

What does Graphicle do?

It builds a code graph of your repository and stores project memory, then serves your coding agent cited excerpts from both, naming the files and lines.

Do I need an API key?

Not for the server or the graph; that work happens on your machine. You need one only if you want graphicle ask to return a written answer next to the excerpts.
