What Globestudio does

Six tools land in the assistant's catalog. list_presets returns the shipped looks with ids and thumbnails, and find_presets matches a style word such as print or glow to a preset. build_share_url produces both a studio link and an /embed address, either from a look or by editing an existing link passed as share_url. read_share_url goes the other way and decodes a link into settings; embed_snippet writes the paste-ready iframe, React or script code; preview_url gives the live embed address plus a PNG thumbnail. Nothing calls an outside API, since the preset catalog is bundled in the package.

The hosted server sits at https://globestudio.app/mcp over streamable HTTP, so installing the package is optional. It keeps no state: each request starts fresh and gets plain JSON back. Only POST is accepted, GET and DELETE answer 405, and the body is capped at 128 KB with up to 10 messages per batch. In Claude the setup is claude mcp add --transport http globestudio https://globestudio.app/mcp.

Prefer to keep traffic local? Point the client at npx -y @globestudio/mcp and the server talks to nothing but your machine. One thing to watch: read_share_url and the share_url argument want a full Globestudio link, meaning ?c=, /looks/<id> or /embed. Anything else comes back as “is not a URL”. Restart the editor after wiring it up or the tools stay hidden from the catalog.

What it helps with

  • make a dotted globe in a chosen preset style
  • get a share link for a map you built
  • drop a globe into a page as a React component
  • recolor and crop a globe through its existing link
  • pick a look from a mood word

Example prompts for the agent

  • List every Globestudio preset with a retro feel.
  • Here is my globe: https://globestudio.app/?c=… Switch the dots to red and keep only Europe.

Questions about Globestudio

How do I install Globestudio in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add --transport http globestudio https://globestudio.app/mcp. That registers the remote server over streamable HTTP; no package install needed.

What does Globestudio do?

It gives the assistant tools for dotted-globe maps: browsing presets, building share and embed links, and decoding links you already have.

Does the remote server need an API key?

No. The hosted endpoint works without an account or a key, and the npx route keeps every request on your own machine.
