ghostlight — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Runs local browser automation inside your active Chromium tabs via MCP. Your agent works in full view using your existing logged-in sessions.
claude mcp add ghostlight -- npx -y ghostlightWhat ghostlight does
Ghostlight links coding assistants to your running Chrome, Brave, or Edge instance. Instead of spinning up an isolated blank window without cookies, it groups agent tabs right inside your existing profile. Every click, keystroke, and page transition remains visible.
A native Rust daemon talks to your browser over local IPC alongside a dedicated browser extension. The server registers 23 catalog tools covering tab control, semantic clicks, form submission, screenshots, and file uploads.
macOS is not supported yet, limiting agent setup strictly to Windows and Linux. You also need Chromium 125 or newer and Node.js if you run the npx installer.
What it helps with
- automate tasks inside pages that already require active user login
- monitor web navigation steps directly in a visible browser tab group
- submit complex web forms and handle file uploads through agent tools
- capture page screenshots and inspect DOM content locally
Example prompts for the agent
- Open https://example.com/ in a new Ghostlight tab, summarize the content, and do not submit any forms.
- Navigate to sylin.org/ghostlight/demo/desk and ring the bell.
