GeoSpark — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
GeoSpark gives coding agents tools for geospatial calculations and data checks. Use it when a map-related answer needs computed results rather than a model’s guess.
claude mcp add --transport http geospark https://geospark.terrascout.app/mcpWhat GeoSpark does
GeoSpark handles geodesic measurements, geometry predicates and coordinate-system transformations. It also offers geocoding, elevation lookup, routing and isochrones: areas reachable within a travel time. Responses include sources, units, caveats and a status such as ok, partial or cannot_answer.
The server can inspect geospatial data for mismatches between declared and actual coordinate systems, wrong zones, unit problems and height references. Geometry operations use Shapely and pyproj. Place lookup uses OpenStreetMap Nominatim, while elevation comes from Copernicus GLO-30 with Open Elevation as a fallback. Nominatim permits at most one request per second, so frequent lookups need to respect that limit.
Claude Code can connect over HTTP using the command below. For self-hosting, the project describes a single-server setup with Valhalla, an OpenStreetMap replica and official geodetic grids. That setup requires a server of your own; the command connects to the hosted endpoint.
What it helps with
- calculate geodesic distance between coordinates
- check whether two geometries intersect
- map an area reachable within a travel time
- detect coordinate-system mismatches in geospatial data
- convert coordinates between reference systems
Example prompts for the agent
- Calculate the geodesic distance between these coordinates.
- Check whether these polygons intersect and explain the result.
- Map the area reachable by car within the given travel time.

Questions about GeoSpark
How do I install GeoSpark in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http geospark https://geospark.terrascout.app/mcp. This registers the remote MCP server over HTTP.
What does GeoSpark do?
It gives models tools for geodetic calculations and geometry analysis, and can check coordinate and height data. Results carry sources, units and a status.
What data issues can GeoSpark check?
It checks declared against actual coordinate systems, datum mix-ups, incorrect zones, units and height references.
