Folio — Claude Code MCP server: a Git-backed wiki for agents
Lets an AI agent search, read and edit your team wiki — pages, data tables and whiteboards. Useful when docs live in Git next to the code.
claude mcp add --transport http folio https://demo.foliowiki.online/mcpWhat Folio does
Folio stores every wiki page as a plain file in a Git repository. The MCP server exposes those same pages to an agent: it searches them, reads them and edits them, and each change lands as a commit. There is a built-in assistant, a per-space agent, and Markdown links written with agents in mind.
The connection runs over HTTP at https://demo.foliowiki.online/mcp. That endpoint is the demo instance: shared login, data resets every 24 hours, so keep personal data and API keys out of it. For a real wiki you run Folio yourself with docker compose up -d and open http://localhost:4870.
A space can be bound to a folder such as docs/ in a product repository, which puts wiki edits and code changes in the same history. Front matter keys from Docusaurus, MkDocs, Hugo and Jekyll are kept byte for byte. Publishing a space as a read-only site is a separate setting.
What it helps with
- let an agent read and edit team wiki pages
- keep documentation in the same repository as the code
- find the right page on request instead of searching by hand
- update a roadmap table from an agent
- write release notes and add a roadmap row
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the release process page in Folio and add notes about this version
- Add a row for the new feature to the roadmap table
- Show which pages in the space link to this document

Questions about Folio
How do I install Folio in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http folio https://demo.foliowiki.online/mcp.
What does Folio do?
It is an MCP server for a Git-backed wiki: an agent searches, reads and edits pages, data tables and whiteboards. Edits are saved as commits in the repository.
Can I point Folio at my own wiki instead of the demo?
Yes. Run Folio yourself with Docker and use your own MCP server URL in place of the demo one.
