flstudio-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: setup
This MCP server connects Claude Code to FL Studio for mix checks, plugin changes, composition tasks, and MIDI work through plain-language requests.
claude mcp add flstudio-mcp -- uvx fl-studio-mcpWhat flstudio-mcp does
flstudio-mcp gives an MCP client access to FL Studio’s mixer, plugins, piano roll, routing, and project state. It can inspect a mix, suggest and apply reversible changes, read installed plugin data, write notes and chords, build arrangement sections, and export a multi-track MIDI file. It also supports tempo and key detection plus melody transcription from audio. The server exposes 67 tools across 14 categories and 6 live resources covering project, mixer, transport, channels, patterns, and status.
You need FL Studio 2025 or newer, Python 3.10+, an MCP client, and two virtual MIDI ports named FLStudioMCP RX and FLStudioMCP TX. Windows uses loopMIDI; macOS uses IAC Driver. MP3 analysis requires ffmpeg on PATH. FL Studio’s API does not load plugins, load audio, or render files, so those actions stay in the DAW interface. Note writing also requires running MCP_Apply once from the piano roll during each session. Linux is a hard stop here: it is not supported.
What it helps with
- inspect a mix for clipping and level imbalance
- build a vocal chain from the installed plugin library
- write an arrangement and export it as MIDI
- estimate an audio file’s tempo, key, and melody
Example prompts for the agent
- Inspect the current FL Studio project and list mix issues with proposed fixes.
- Use the plugins installed in FL Studio to prepare a vocal processing chain, then show each change before applying it.
- Write a multi-track arrangement and export the result as a MIDI file.
