Everything File Search — Claude Code MCP server: search files
Search Windows files through the voidtools Everything index and return matches to an AI agent. Useful when you need to locate code or documents by name, path, or other filters.
claude mcp add everything-mcp -- uvx everything-mcpWhat Everything File Search does
The server connects an AI agent to voidtools Everything through es.exe. It queries the file index instead of walking directories one by one. Its everything_search tool accepts a search query and supports filters such as extension, path, size, and modification date, along with sorting and pagination.
You need Windows, Everything installed and running, es.exe, and Python 3.10+ or uv. A client can launch the server with uvx everything-mcp. If you configured a named Everything instance, you can pass it through EVERYTHING_INSTANCE; an incorrect value can break the connection. The package includes a Claude Code plugin, and the MCP server can also be configured in other clients.
What it helps with
- find Python files under a chosen directory
- filter files by extension and size
- locate files changed in the past week
- search for an exact filename or a regular-expression match
Example prompts for the agent
- Find Python files related to tests under
C:\Projects. - Show files larger than 10 MB that changed today.
- Search the drive for the exact name
config.jsonand sort matches by path.
