Epoch — Claude Code MCP server: time estimates

An MCP server for estimating duration, business days, model costs, and schedule risk. Use it when an agent needs calculations instead of rough guesses.

What Epoch does

Epoch gives an AI agent tools for time estimates and calendar calculations. It covers PERT, COCOMO II, sprint forecasting, critical-path analysis, and Monte Carlo scheduling. It can also count business days while accounting for weekends and holidays.

The server compares token costs across AI models, scores schedule risk, and connects forecasts with recorded actuals. A bundled reference database supplies starting estimates and correction factors, so initial use does not depend on collecting your own history or creating an account. Recording actual durations enables later calibration.

In Claude Code, Epoch runs through npx. The server must be added with claude mcp add epoch -- npx @kyanitelabs/epoch before its tools become available to the agent.

What it helps with

  • estimate a task with PERT or COCOMO II
  • check whether a delivery date is realistic
  • count business days between two dates
  • compare token costs across AI models
  • measure estimates against recorded actuals

Example prompts for the agent

  • Estimate this task with PERT and show the best and worst cases.
  • Count the business days from the start date to launch, including the relevant holidays.
  • Compare the AI model costs for this task and assess the schedule risk.

How to install Epoch

Questions about Epoch

How do I install Epoch in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add epoch -- npx @kyanitelabs/epoch. Claude Code will then have access to Epoch's tools.

What does Epoch do?

Epoch helps an agent calculate durations, business days, AI model costs, and schedule risk. Its estimation methods include PERT, COCOMO II, Monte Carlo, and calibration from actual results.

Which platforms does Epoch support?

Epoch is listed for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf (Devin Desktop), Cline, and Zed.
