dns-aid — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
MCP server discovers and publishes AI agents using DNS SVCB records without centralized registries. Useful for connecting distributed tools through standard domain names.
claude mcp add --env DNS_AID_BACKEND=<DNS_AID_BACKEND> --transport stdio dns-aid -- uvx dns-aidWhat dns-aid does
The server runs on standard DNS. Instead of relying on private registries or static addresses, it discovers agents through SVCB records. A client queries a domain and instantly gets reachable endpoints with supported protocols.
The tooling handles both publishing and record verification. It checks authenticity via DNSSEC and DANE, then filters endpoints by supported authorization methods. When searching across multiple domains, it can query external HTTP catalogs.
Publishing records requires setting the DNS_AID_BACKEND environment variable for your DNS provider. Without valid DNS credentials, write operations will fail.
What it helps with
- publish agent endpoints to DNS via SVCB records
- discover remote agents using domain names
- verify DNS records and security parameters
- filter agent services by protocols and auth types
Example prompts for the agent
- Find available MCP agents at
example.comusing dns-aid. - Check the DNS records and security score for
agent.example.com. - Publish a new MCP agent under domain
