databroker — Claude Code MCP server: UK vehicle data, paid per call
Connects an agent to MossForge DataBroker for UK MOT history and reliability data. Calls are paid in USDC on Base, with no API keys or subscription.
claude mcp add databroker -e DATABROKER_BASE_URL=<DATABROKER_BASE_URL> -e DATABROKER_WALLET_KEY=<DATABROKER_WALLET_KEY> -e CDP_API_KEY_ID=<CDP_API_KEY_ID> -e CDP_API_KEY_SECRET=<CDP_API_KEY_SECRET> -e CDP_WALLET_SECRET=<CDP_WALLET_SECRET> -- npx -y @mossforge/databroker-mcpWhat databroker does
The server starts with npx -y @mossforge/databroker-mcp and exposes several tools. databroker_discover lists the enabled datasets and their USDC price per call, while databroker_meta returns staleness, TTL and source details without charging. databroker_fetch pulls one datapoint by key. databroker_batch_create takes up to 100 keys from a single dataset as one job under one payment, and databroker_batch_status polls that job.
Every paid tool quotes first. Money moves only on a second call carrying confirm: true, and DATABROKER_MAX_USDC (default 0.50) rejects anything priced higher before payment. On clients that advertise MCP elicitation, the server asks the human to approve the exact URL and amount itself; Claude gained this in v2.1.76. Elsewhere the check is skipped and the confirm: true flag plus the cap are all that stands between the model and your wallet.
You need a funded wallet on Base mainnet. In raw mode the private key sits in DATABROKER_WALLET_KEY and signs locally. The cdp mode pays through a Coinbase-managed wallet and wants CDP_API_KEY_ID, CDP_API_KEY_SECRET and CDP_WALLET_SECRET, plus an installed @coinbase/cdp-sdk. In raw mode the key is as safe as the process environment around it, so a fresh wallet holding a small balance is the sane choice.
What it helps with
- check a car's MOT record before agreeing to buy it
- see whether the odometer reading matches the test history
- fetch a hundred keys in one job and one payment
- inspect data freshness and source without spending
- keep a single call under a hard spend cap
Example prompts for the agent
- Should I buy a 2018 Golf with reg
AB18 CDE? Look up its MOT history and tell me if the mileage is plausible. - List the datasets that are switched on and what each call costs.
- Run a batch over these 50 registration numbers and show me the total quote before paying.

Questions about databroker
How do I install databroker in Claude Code?
Run `claude mcp add --env DATABROKER_BASE_URL=<DATABROKER_BASE_URL> --env DATABROKER_SIGNER=<DATABROKER_SIGNER> --env DATABROKER_WALLET_KEY=<DATABROKER_WALLET_KEY> --env CDP_API_KEY_ID=<CDP_API_KEY_ID> --env CDP_API_KEY_SECRET=<CDP_API_KEY_SECRET> --transport stdio mcp-server -- npx -y @mossforge/databroker-mcp`, filling in the placeholders with your own values.
What does databroker do?
It gives an agent tools for querying UK vehicle records and the analytics built on them. Free calls cover the catalogue, metadata and pricing; paid calls return the actual datapoints and batch jobs.
Do I need an API key?
No. Payment comes from a USDC wallet on Base mainnet. Raw mode needs a private key in DATABROKER_WALLET_KEY; cdp mode needs a Coinbase account and the three CDP variables.
