Crypto Market Data — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, install
An MCP server providing token prices, OHLCV candles, and DeFi TVL metrics from CoinGecko and DeFiLlama. Useful when evaluating cryptocurrency markets and pool yields directly inside your agent.
Open on GitHubWhat Crypto Market Data does
The server links your coding assistant with live cryptocurrency analytics. It exposes tools for retrieving spot valuations, OHLCV bars, trending tokens, and coin lookups from CoinGecko. You get market figures without leaving your terminal.
DeFi metrics come directly from DeFiLlama. The assistant can inspect total value locked across networks, rank protocols, check yield farming pools, and track stablecoin supplies. The implementation lives inside the mcp-server/ directory of the project repository.
Running the code relies on Node.js tooling through npm install and npm run build. The service queries public data endpoints directly without requiring external API keys in the initial configuration.
What it helps with
- fetch spot cryptocurrency rates and OHLCV bars without leaving your editor
- monitor total value locked across blockchains and DeFi protocols
- inspect yield farming returns across decentralized liquidity pools
- track trending coins and circulating stablecoin supplies
Example prompts for the agent
- "Check the current Bitcoin price and fetch weekly OHLCV candle data."
- "List the top DeFi protocols sorted by TVL from DeFiLlama."
- "Find active yield farming opportunities and check stablecoin supply metrics."
