What Code civil (France) does

The server turns provisions of the French Civil Code into rules an agent can evaluate. You supply the circumstances and the date the law should be read at, and it returns a conclusion plus the articles behind it. Content is split into packages by subject: obligations, contract, property, family, inheritance, security, liability, Mayotte. A separate historical slice covers 1804.

The package fr.code_civil holds the limitation rules alone, not the whole code. Pick the package that matches your question, so a contract dispute goes to fr.code_civil.contrat and an estate question to fr.code_civil.successions. Source texts and labels stay in French; the English explanations are unofficial. The contemporary text is frozen at 16 September 2026, so this is not a live feed of French law.

Running it locally needs Node.js 20+ and Git. The CLI @arxo/[email protected] targets macOS arm64 and Linux x64, and the models ship through GitHub rather than npm. If you only want agent access, the HTTP endpoint skips both Node.js and the clone.

What it helps with

  • check whether limitation bars a claim on an old debt
  • separate contract wording before and after the 2016 reform
  • test whether renegotiation is open under article 1195
  • work out the surviving spouse's share of an estate
  • tell missing evidence apart from a negative assertion

Example prompts for the agent

  • Take these facts and the 2015 date, check limitation under the 1804 reading
  • This contract is from 1 October 2016 — which wording applies?
  • Compute the surviving spouse's share with two children

What does Code civil (France) do?

It takes facts and a legal date and returns a conclusion under the French Civil Code along with the grounds for it. Answers stay reproducible because they rest on frozen texts.

Why doesn't the fr.code_civil package cover the whole code?

It is built for the limitation section only. Other subjects have their own packages, such as fr.code_civil.contrat or fr.code_civil.biens.
