What claude-find does

The server inspects project JSONL archives stored in ~/.claude/projects/ to run hybrid lookups across previous conversations. Instead of truncating discussions into brief outlines, it retrieves uncompressed message logs with recorded tool calls, branch metadata, and explicit trade-offs.

Information retrieval merges lexical matching via SQLite FTS5 with vector similarity from the qwen3-embedding weights inside Ollama. Results get sorted by reciprocal rank fusion. Index updates proceed asynchronously during startup, letting Claude begin queries without waiting for background tasks to finish.

Running this setup requires Bun on your path and a functioning Ollama instance. Without Ollama accessible locally, the embedding generation fails immediately.

What it helps with

  • locate architectural decisions buried in past terminal chats
  • retrieve previous database migration steps and trade-offs
  • revisit failed debugging attempts and error transcripts
  • find touched files across earlier sessions via tool records

Example prompts for the agent

  • /find discussion about switching from long-polling to event streams
  • /find past conversations regarding timeout errors in payments
  • /find database schema updates completed last week

Questions about claude-find

How to install claude-find in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add claude-find -- npx -y claude-find. Make sure Bun and Ollama are already installed on your system.

What does claude-find do?

It lets the model query full transcripts of earlier chats rather than truncated summaries. This brings back context on previous bugs, project constraints, and architectural choices.

What dependencies are required to run it?

You need the Bun runtime and an active Ollama instance. The server relies on Ollama to calculate vector embeddings locally via qwen3-embedding.
