What chrome-bridge does

chrome-bridge connects Claude Code to a running Chrome session through a local WebSocket bridge. The agent can navigate pages, inspect the DOM, fill forms, locate elements, run audits, compare screenshots, and mock network responses. Tabs opened for the agent are kept separate from your own tabs.

When a page needs a human, handoff displays a banner and pauses the run. You can complete a login, enter 2FA, solve a CAPTCHA, answer a question, or select page elements, then let the agent continue. The setup needs Node.js 18+, Chrome 135+, and the Chrome Bridge extension loaded from extension/ in developer mode.

On Windows, install.sh cannot run from PowerShell or cmd. Error-log hooks also need Python 3.8+ available as python3, python, or py; without it, the browser tools still work while those hooks stay quiet.

What it helps with

  • work in a page where Chrome is already signed in
  • fill a web form from supplied data
  • run accessibility, SEO, or security audits
  • locate an element in a large table
  • pause for a human 2FA or CAPTCHA step

Example prompts for the agent

  • Fill the form in the current tab from user.json, then hand control to me for 2FA.
  • Compare the page with the reference image using screenshot_diff and report the changes.
