Causari — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Tracks how many lines from AI-tagged commits persist via git blame and exposes local agent run logs over MCP.
Open on GitHubWhat Causari does
Causari measures the survival rate of machine-generated code inside git repositories. The CLI scans commit metadata for signs of AI tools, then runs git blame against HEAD to see which lines remain intact. It reports counts, not quality scores.
During interactive coding, Causari stores records of prompts, model names, and modified files in a local ledger. Running re mcp exposes this ledger over the Model Context Protocol directly to compatible IDEs and terminal clients.
Inline completions leave no git commit trailers, making them completely invisible to this tool. Binary files such as PDFs and images are skipped during calculation.
What it helps with
- calculate how many lines from AI-tagged commits persist at HEAD
- log prompts, models, and targeted files into a local ledger
- supply agent session provenance to coding tools over MCP
- contrast AI code survival against untagged baseline commits
Example prompts for the agent
- Run a Causari repository audit and check how many AI lines survived
- Start the Causari MCP server and inspect runtime prompts from the ledger
- Export an audit summary for this git branch in JSON format

Questions about Causari
How to install Causari in Claude Code?
Install the binary with curl -fsSL https://causari.dev/install.sh | sh in your shell. Then start the protocol listener by running re mcp.
What does the survival metric mean?
Survival represents the percentage of lines introduced by AI-flagged commits that git blame still attributes to those commits. It reflects code persistence, not code quality or developer productivity.
Does Causari detect ghost completions from Cursor Tab or Copilot?
No, inline completions are omitted. Because they do not create commit metadata trailers, Causari places them into the untagged repository baseline.
