Repowise — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup

Repowise indexes code, call relationships, Git history, tests, and docs so an agent can answer questions about a repository. Use it when an agent needs to trace a change or find unused code.

What Repowise does

Repowise builds a local repository index containing code, a call graph, Git history, tests, documentation, and design decisions. An MCP-connected agent can inspect the project overview, trace dependencies on a file, or ask which areas a change may affect. The index is built once and updated on commits.

Graph analysis, code health, test information, and dead-code checks make no LLM calls. Running repowise serve requires Node 20+ and downloads the UI on first launch. That requirement matters if you plan to run the server and dashboard locally. Add the server to Claude Code with claude mcp add repowise -- uvx repowise.

What it helps with

  • trace which parts of a project call a function
  • check what a file change may affect
  • find unused code
  • give an agent an overview of a repository

Example prompts for the agent

  • Use Repowise to summarize this repository.
  • Ask Repowise what could be affected by changing src/auth.py.
  • Use Repowise to find unused code in this project.
