blockscout-mcp-server — Claude Code MCP server for blockchain data
Feeds an AI agent balances, tokens, NFTs and contract metadata from Blockscout. Handy when you want to inspect a wallet or contract without leaving the editor.
claude mcp add --transport http blockscout-mcp-server https://server.smithery.ai/@blockscout/mcp-server/mcpWhat blockscout-mcp-server does
The server wraps Blockscout APIs and exposes blockchain data over MCP. An agent can pull balances, tokens, NFTs and contract metadata, then work with them in context. Multi-chain setups run through the Blockscout PRO API with Chainscout metadata enrichment.
Context stays manageable: responses are sliced into pages of a configurable size, oversized fields get truncated with a marker and a hint on how to reach the rest. Pagination uses opaque Base64URL cursors rather than long parameter lists. A versioned REST API exposes the same toolset over plain HTTP.
A Blockscout PRO API key is required. Most data tools route through the authenticated gateway, and an invalid key makes them fail before any upstream call. Keys carry the proapi_ prefix and come from the Blockscout developer portal, where the free tier needs no credit card. In Claude the key travels in the Blockscout-MCP-Pro-Api-Key header.
What it helps with
- check a wallet balance and its tokens without leaving the editor
- read contract metadata for an address
- list NFTs held by a wallet
- query several chains through one server
- give an agent blockchain data without blowing up context
Example prompts for the agent
- Show the balances and tokens for 0x... using blockscout
- Fetch the metadata for contract 0x... and explain what it does
- List the NFTs in this wallet, grouped by collection

Questions about blockscout-mcp-server
How do I install blockscout-mcp-server in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http blockscout-mcp-server https://server.smithery.ai/@blockscout/mcp-server/mcp. The server then shows up in your MCP list.
What does blockscout-mcp-server do?
It gives an agent blockchain data through Blockscout APIs: balances, tokens, NFTs, contract metadata. It speaks MCP and covers multiple chains.
Do I need an API key?
Yes. A Blockscout PRO API key is mandatory, since most tools fail before reaching the network without one. Keys start with proapi_ and go in the Blockscout-MCP-Pro-Api-Key header.
