BankMCP™ — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Self-hosted read-only MCP server connecting personal bank accounts to AI tools via Enable Banking. Lets assistants inspect balances without payment permissions.
claude mcp add bankmcp -- npx -y bankmcpWhat BankMCP™ does
BankMCP™ links your coding assistant to bank accounts across 2,700+ European financial institutions via PSD2. It runs either as a local process with npx or as a self-hosted container. The server is strictly read-only, which rules out initiating payments or moving funds.
The architecture routes assistant queries via OAuth to your local server, which contacts Enable Banking using signed JWT tokens. Your server retains authorization keys and consent tokens but avoids saving transaction histories or balances on disk. Local runtime configuration lives inside ~/.bankmcp, or under /data when deployed in a container.
The local setup requires Node 24 or newer, failing immediately on older runtimes. You will also need a free Enable Banking account to issue an application key and generate the initial .pem certificate.
What it helps with
- verify whether a client invoice has been paid
- calculate grocery spending for a specific month
- inspect balances across multiple linked banking accounts
- monitor accounts for balances dropping below 5,000
Example prompts for the agent
- Has the invoice from Acme been paid yet?
- What did we spend on groceries last month?
- List all ongoing subscriptions and calculate what they cost per year
