Audio Calibration MCP — Claude Code MCP server for REW tuning

A local MCP server for Room EQ Wizard that walks an assistant through acoustic measurement, crossover analysis and conservative EQ. Useful when tuning speakers, a subwoofer or a car system.

What Audio Calibration MCP does

The server runs on the same machine as REW and plugs into an assistant such as Claude, Codex or Cursor. Measurement itself stays with REW; any change lands in your DSP or receiver, and only if that device accepts it. This is not a standalone calibration app — it is a set of tools the assistant calls during a session.

The flow starts with audio_doctor. When REW is not running, you go through rew_install_discover and then the confirmed rew_launch_plan / rew_launch_execute pair. After that comes an inventory of the host, microphone, output route and DSP state, a repeatable session plan that asks for fresh confirmation of microphone placement and route safety, separate raw traces, then quality, crossover, distortion and listening analysis. A plan is applied only when hash-bound, with backup and rollback.

Node.js 20 or 22 is required. Automated sweeps driven through the REW API need a REW Pro license; reading measurements you already have does not. REW has to run locally with its API switched on, and startup is checked against http://127.0.0.1:4735. Change AUDIO_REW_URL only for a trusted endpoint on your local network. If discovery comes up empty, hand the absolute executable path — REW.app on macOS — to rew_install_discover or rew_launch_plan.

What it helps with

  • locate an installed REW and start it with an explicit confirmation
  • capture several repeated sweeps and keep each raw trace apart
  • work out the crossover between a subwoofer and the main pair
  • build a cut-only EQ preset instead of boosting dips
  • export settings to CamillaDSP or Equalizer APO with rollback

Example prompts for the agent

  • Run audio_doctor and tell me what is missing before calibration.
  • Find REW with rew_install_discover, then show me the launch plan.
  • Plan a repeated measurement session with microphone placement confirmation.

Questions about Audio Calibration MCP

How do I install Audio Calibration MCP in Claude Code?

There is no install command for Claude: grab a release or build from source (npm ci --ignore-scripts, npm run build, npm test, npm run validate:release) and register the server as described in docs/installation.md.

What does Audio Calibration MCP do?

It guides an assistant through calibration: environment checks, finding and launching REW, measurements, crossover and distortion analysis, conservative EQ, and DSP export with backup and rollback.

Do I need a REW Pro license?

Only for automated sweeps through the REW API. Reading measurements you already have works without it.
