applemusic-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects Apple Music to your AI assistant for playlist management, playback controls, and catalog searches. Runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux with an active subscription.
claude mcp add applemusic-mcp -- uvx applemusic-mcpWhat applemusic-mcp does
The server links your coding assistant with Apple Music via seven focused tools. The model can queue songs, adjust volume, trigger AirPlay output, and build new playlists. It queries the local desktop player or the online service API.
Access scopes are regulated with the --level flag. The base music tier interacts strictly with macOS Music.app without touching the network. Switching to api or web brings catalog access and recommendation feeds to Windows and Linux. Queue management relies on a desktop browser session. On non-Mac systems, Google Chrome is mandatory.
Running the tool requires Python 3.10 or newer. Without running applemusic-mcp login, cloud catalog actions will fail outside macOS.
What it helps with
- Control playback, volume, and shuffle from chat
- Find tracks across the catalog and save them to the library
- Build custom playlists based on moods or genres
- Inspect and reorder the Up Next queue
Example prompts for the agent
- Create an upbeat 90s alternative playlist and name it Road Trip.
- Shuffle my workout playlist and add Bohemian Rhapsody to the queue.
- Show what is currently playing and list the upcoming songs.
