Apple Shortcuts · jonathanrreed — Claude Code MCP server: install
This MCP server lets an agent list, inspect, and run Apple Shortcuts on macOS. Use it when a coding client needs to trigger existing Mac workflows.
claude mcp add --env APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE=<APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE> --transport stdio appleshortcuts-mcp -- uvx apple-shortcuts-mcpWhat Apple Shortcuts does
Apple Shortcuts exposes the Shortcuts library through MCP. An agent can discover available shortcuts, inspect a chosen shortcut, and run it on the Mac instead of handling each action manually.
You need macOS, Python 3.11+, and uv for the setup. Register the server in Claude Code and restart the client afterward. The server will not run without macOS.
Set APPLE_SHORTCUTS_MCP_SAFETY_MODE when the client configuration needs an explicit safety profile. Shortcuts usually does not show a separate permission prompt; shortcuts_health can check the connection state. Returned data may still be sent from the MCP client to its model provider.
What it helps with
- list available Apple Shortcuts
- inspect a shortcut before running it
- trigger a Mac shortcut from an agent chat
- check the Shortcuts connection
Example prompts for the agent
- List the Apple Shortcuts available on this Mac.
- Inspect the “Morning Report” shortcut and explain what it does.
- Run the “Create Invoice” shortcut and report the result.
