Google rolled out a batch of updates for Demand Gen campaigns, which run across YouTube, Gmail and other visual inventory. The changes are meant to shorten the path from impression to conversion ahead of the holiday season.
The lead feature is Business Agent for YouTube video ads. Viewers can chat with an AI bot directly inside the player without leaving the video. The bot answers questions about products from the advertiser's feed — conversational AI built into video inventory. Access requires registration.
The second update removes intermediate screens. Image ads in YouTube Shorts and Gmail now take users to the landing page in one tap. For Shorts, the format works with vertical 9:16 creative without letterboxing. Google says adding Gmail to Demand Gen lifts conversions for image creative by 40% on average at the same ROI.
The third addition is Affiliate Location Extensions in Google Maps. Retail chains and dealers can show promoted pins when a user searches or builds a route. The format is designed to capture local demand.
All three features are live now. Google grouped the announcements in a dedicated Demand Gen Drops hub, suggesting the series will continue.
