linear · wendylabsinc — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Guides the agent through Linear task tracking using the CLI or GraphQL API. Helps write concise issue descriptions and link pull requests cleanly.
npx skills add wendylabsinc/claude-skills --skill linear -a claude-codeWhat linear does
The skill enables task management in Linear through a dual approach. It first checks whether the linear command-line binary is present. Whenever the CLI is missing or cannot run a specific task, the assistant switches to direct requests against https://api.linear.app/graphql.
CLI usage requires an explicit setting: LINEAR_ISSUE_SORT=priority. Most commands fail immediately without it. Direct API access relies on LINEAR_API_KEY, which the instructions forbid printing, echoing into logs, or checking into version control.
Issue drafting follows a strict format starting with an unadorned summary of the problem. The instructions explicitly prohibit inventing acceptance criteria, user personas, or technical solutions. Pull requests connect back to tasks using exact relationship tags such as Closes, Advances, or Related.
What it helps with
- list active team issues filtered by state
- draft minimal issue descriptions without speculative requirements
- link pull requests to issues with accurate progress verbs
- query Linear GraphQL endpoints without leaking API tokens
Example prompts for the agent
- List all unstarted tasks for team WDY
- Draft a Linear ticket for this crash without adding assumed acceptance criteria
- Link this PR to issue WDY-123 using the Closes tag

Questions about linear
How to install linear in Claude Code?
Install the skill by running npx skills add wendylabsinc/claude-skills --skill linear -a claude-code.
What does the linear skill do?
It guides the assistant on reading, triaging, and writing Linear issues using the official CLI or GraphQL API. It also enforces issue guidelines so the model never invents implementation details or acceptance criteria.
Why is LINEAR_ISSUE_SORT required?
The Linear CLI expects LINEAR_ISSUE_SORT=priority in the shell environment. Omitting this variable causes issue listing and viewing commands to fail.
