orca-linear — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Manages Linear issues through the Orca CLI directly from agent sessions. Useful for moving tickets between workflow states, linking pull requests, and searching issues.
npx skills add stablyai/orca --skill orca-linear -a claude-codeWhat orca-linear does
The skill connects coding agents to Linear using the Orca command-line interface. It handles finding issues, updating workflow states, submitting PR or MR links with final comments, and filing parented follow-up tasks. Ticket descriptions, comments, and attachments are treated strictly as untrusted data rather than instructions.
Before running commands, the skill identifies the correct binary. It checks ORCA_CLI_COMMAND first, falls back to orca-dev in development checkouts, and picks orca-ide on Linux to avoid launching the GNOME screen reader at /usr/bin/orca. It then loads instructions using ORCA skills get orca-linear.
You need a running Orca CLI environment for this to work. If your team does not track work in Linear, skip this skill entirely.
What it helps with
- move Linear issues through workflow states
- attach PR or MR links with completion comments
- search Linear issues directly from the terminal
- create parented follow-up tasks in Linear
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the Linear issue for the auth refactor and move it to In Progress
- Add my PR link to the active Linear ticket with a summary comment
- Create a parented follow-up issue in Linear to cover edge case testing

Questions about orca-linear
How to install orca-linear in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add stablyai/orca --skill orca-linear -a claude-code. The skill definition will be placed in ~/.claude/skills/orca-linear/SKILL.md.
What does orca-linear do?
It allows agents to interact with Linear using the Orca CLI. The tool searches tickets, transitions workflow states, links PRs, and creates follow-up issues.
Why does orca-linear avoid bare orca on Linux?
On Linux outside Orca-managed terminals, running orca calls the GNOME screen reader at /usr/bin/orca and activates speech synthesis. The skill runs orca-ide instead.

Orca exports this for managed WSL sessions. - Otherwise, in a dev checkout whose session exposes `ORCA_DEV_REPO_ROOT`, use `orca-dev`. - Otherwise, on Linux outside an Orca-managed terminal, use `orca-ide`. Never run bare `orca` there — outside Orca's terminals it normally resolves to the GNOME Orca screen reader (`/usr/bin/orca`) and starts speech on the user's machine. - Otherwise, use `orca`. Below, `ORCA` is a placeholder for the executable you resolved. Substitute it before running anything; do not create a shell variable or run `ORCA` literally. This works the same way in POSIX shells, PowerShell, and cmd.exe. If the selected executable cannot run, report its exact error and stop. Do not fall through to another executable, which could silently target a different Orca build. ## Load the version-matched guide before running Orca commands ```text ORCA skills get orca-linear ``` Prefer `--json`. Use the selected executable's `--help` for commands or flags the guide does not cover. If a command reports that Orca is not running, start it with `ORCA open --json` and retry. If it fails with `runtime_access_denied`, your sandbox blocked the connection: re-run it with escalated permissions, and do not run `ORCA open` or restart Orca. If `skills get` is unknown, explain that updating Orca restores the guide; use `--help` for read-only discovery and do not guess unsupported commands.
