orca-emulator-android — Claude Code skill: drive Android over adb
Lets the agent drive an adb-connected Android emulator or phone from inside Orca: taps, swipes, APK install, logcat. Handy for running a flow on a real device.
npx skills add stablyai/orca --skill orca-emulator-android -a claude-codeWhat orca-emulator-android does
The skill gives the agent control of an adb-connected emulator or phone: booting AVDs, taps, swipes, typing, hardware buttons, rotation, app install and launch, runtime permissions, the accessibility tree and logcat. The live device view sits in Orca's emulator pane. Works on Windows, Linux and macOS.
What ships is a discovery stub. It loads the guide that matches the Orca executable used for the session. Pick that executable once and reuse it for every later command. If ORCA_CLI_COMMAND is set, take its value. In a dev checkout that exposes ORCA_DEV_REPO_ROOT, use orca-dev. On Linux outside an Orca-managed terminal, use orca-ide. Never run bare orca there: it resolves to the GNOME Orca screen reader (/usr/bin/orca) and starts speech on the user's machine. Otherwise, use orca.
Load the guide before running Orca commands: ORCA skills get orca-emulator-android, preferably with --json. If a command says Orca is not running, start it with ORCA open --json and retry. A runtime_access_denied failure means your sandbox blocked the connection: re-run with escalated permissions, and leave ORCA open and Orca itself alone. Build the APK with Gradle first. An iOS simulator needs the separate iOS emulator skill.
What it helps with
- run a tap-and-swipe flow on an emulator without clicking by hand
- install an APK and grant runtime permissions from the agent
- capture logcat while reproducing a bug
- read the accessibility tree to find an element by its text
- boot an AVD and set the screen orientation
Example prompts for the agent
- load the orca-emulator-android guide and boot an AVD
- install the built APK on the connected emulator and launch the main activity
- pull logcat from the last minute and show me the errors

Questions about orca-emulator-android
How do I install orca-emulator-android in Claude?
Run npx skills add stablyai/orca --skill orca-emulator-android -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/orca-emulator-android/SKILL.md.
What does orca-emulator-android do?
It drives an Android device or emulator over adb from Orca: taps, swipes, typing, buttons, rotation, app install and launch, permissions, the accessibility tree, logcat. The device view shows up in Orca's emulator pane.
What do I need before running it?
Build the APK with Gradle and resolve the Orca executable for the session. On Linux outside an Orca terminal that is orca-ide, because bare orca starts the GNOME screen reader.

Orca exports this for managed WSL sessions. - Otherwise, in a dev checkout whose session exposes `ORCA_DEV_REPO_ROOT`, use `orca-dev`. - Otherwise, on Linux outside an Orca-managed terminal, use `orca-ide`. Never run bare `orca` there — outside Orca's terminals it normally resolves to the GNOME Orca screen reader (`/usr/bin/orca`) and starts speech on the user's machine. - Otherwise, use `orca`. Below, `ORCA` is a placeholder for the executable you resolved. Substitute it before running anything; do not create a shell variable or run `ORCA` literally. This works the same way in POSIX shells, PowerShell, and cmd.exe. If the selected executable cannot run, report its exact error and stop. Do not fall through to another executable, which could silently target a different Orca build. ## Load the version-matched guide before running Orca commands ```text ORCA skills get orca-emulator-android ``` Prefer `--json`. Use the selected executable's `--help` for commands or flags the guide does not cover. If a command reports that Orca is not running, start it with `ORCA open --json` and retry. If it fails with `runtime_access_denied`, your sandbox blocked the connection: re-run it with escalated permissions, and do not run `ORCA open` or restart Orca. If `skills get` is unknown, explain that updating Orca restores the guide; use `--help` for read-only discovery and do not guess unsupported commands.
