What index does

index routes product design requests to a focused skill for research, flow audits, critique, visual cloning, or prototype work. A mention of UI alone does not trigger this route. It is not meant for routine implementation unless product design is explicitly requested.

This is a router, not the workflow itself. It sends audits of existing product experiences straight to $audit and URL-based cloning to $url-to-code. In Codex Desktop, browser tasks use the in-app browser through @Browser and agent.browsers.get("iab").

Install index if you want product design requests to reach dedicated workflows. Skip it for ordinary coding tasks that do not ask for product design.

What it helps with

  • route a product-flow review to $audit
  • choose the workflow for cloning a site from a URL
  • tell a design request apart from routine implementation
  • send research or prototyping work to a focused skill

Example prompts for the agent

  • Audit this user flow and tell me what to inspect.
  • Build a prototype from this URL that faithfully follows its visual design.
  • Research this product idea and help me explore design directions.

Questions about index

How do I install index in Codex?

Run npx skills add openai/plugins --skill index or npx skills add openai/plugins --skill index -a codex.

What does the index skill do?

It routes product design requests to a focused skill, such as one for audits or URL-based cloning. The index skill does not perform that work itself.

Should I use index for routine UI implementation?

No, unless product design is explicitly requested. A mention of UI, a prototype, or visual style alone does not trigger its workflow.
