What agents-sdk does

The skill creates Agents SDK apps from a prompt, existing repository, or Codex session history. It reads OpenAI docs before building, writes Python code (or TypeScript on request), adds function tools via @function_tool, and provides isolated execution through SandboxAgent when the agent needs file or shell access. Interaction diagrams are generated directly as PNG files.

Each app gets a structure with agent.py, main.py, and evals/, docs/, skills/ folders. Eval tests check the real agent path, not just contracts: tool calls, handoffs, edge cases. HTTP apps start with uv run python main.py, read the PORT variable, and expose /health for readiness checks. Before running, the skill requires confirmation of OPENAI_API_KEY access through a separate gate — a prompt to verify the key is in the environment.

What it helps with

  • build an Agents SDK agent from a prompt or idea
  • add eval tests to verify agent behavior
  • turn Codex session history into a runnable app
  • deploy an agent through Deployment Manager
  • isolate shell commands and file operations in a sandbox

Example prompts for the agent

  • Build an Agents SDK agent that checks order status via API and returns JSON
  • Add eval cases for `agent.py`: verify tool call and API error handling
  • Deploy this app locally through Deployment Manager
