manage-sprite-atlas — Claude Code skill for Unity atlases
This skill guides SpriteAtlas creation and setup in Unity projects through the build pipeline. Use it when configuring built-in atlases or Addressables loading.
npx skills add Unity-Technologies/skills --skill manage-sprite-atlas -a claude-codeWhat manage-sprite-atlas does
The skill guides SpriteAtlas work in Unity: it asks you to choose a delivery method, check for scripts already in the project, and configure Sprite Packer. Its default path generates atlases during the prebuild pipeline; manual authoring is reserved for cases where the user explicitly requests it.
Before code is written, the skill requires checking packing settings and reading relevant files from resources/. It keeps editor authoring separate from runtime atlas access. When EditorSettings.spritePackerMode is Disabled, the atlas will not pack, even if it appears ready in the editor.
On-demand loading through Addressables requires the Addressables package, a content build step, and a runtime loader script. This route also uses asynchronous loading and depends on a network connection. The skill asks you to choose between atlases included in the build for immediate access and Addressables loading on demand.
What it helps with
- generate SpriteAtlas assets during a Unity build
- set up on-demand atlas loading with Addressables
- check whether Sprite Packer is enabled
- decide how existing atlas scripts should be handled
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up Unity sprite atlases for the main UI and generate them during the build.
- Prepare Addressables loading for atlases used by downloadable content.
- Check for existing SpriteAtlas scripts and verify the packing mode before generating code.
