sprite-segment-3x3grid — Claude Code skill: install and overview
Splits a sprite into nine equal sectors to generate a color match string relative to the central area. Useful for asset regression checks in tests.
npx skills add Unity-Technologies/skills --skill sprite-segment-3x3grid -a claude-codeWhat sprite-segment-3x3grid does
This skill slices texture coordinates from sprite.rect into nine blocks. It determines the dominant tone in cell [1,1]. Next, it checks what fraction of pixels in adjacent blocks matches that shade. If the fraction clears the target ratio, the block receives a dot symbol; otherwise, it gets an X. Rows are printed top to bottom, joined with slashes.
The standard match ratio sits at 75%. You can adjust this to 50% for blended art or 90% for solid icons. The internal script scripts/SpriteGridAnalysis.cs inverts the vertical texture axis so the resulting matrix aligns naturally with human visual reading.
Subtle gradients cause false mismatches unless you widen the RGB distance margin beforehand.
What it helps with
- verify sprite layout in automated visual regression runs
- document sprite patterns using a concise text format
- group texture assets by primary color distribution
- detect unexpected color variations without launching image editors
Example prompts for the agent
- Run a 3x3 grid color analysis on the player_jump sprite
- Check the border colors of icon_coin against the center cell
- Analyze texture color symmetry using sprite-segment-3x3grid

Questions about sprite-segment-3x3grid
How do I install sprite-segment-3x3grid in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add Unity-Technologies/skills --skill sprite-segment-3x3grid -a claude-code.
What do the characters in the output format represent?
An asterisk * marks the middle block, a dot . means surrounding pixels met the threshold, and X signals a mismatch.
What is the default matching threshold?
The default threshold is 75%. You can switch to 50% for noisier artwork or 90% for strictly uniform sprites.
