lifecycle-play-advisor — Claude Code skill: what it does, install
Interactive triage skill for product managers. It diagnoses whether a slowing product is in decline and guides the decision to extend, replace, or retire.
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill lifecycle-play-advisor -a claude-codeWhat lifecycle-play-advisor does
The skill structures debates around fading products. Instead of open-ended team friction, an agent asks up to four targeted questions. This triage reveals what is actually driving the pressure: softening market demand, escalating support costs, or architectural limits.
Lifecycle staging relies on a seven-question gut check. The tally identifies where the product stands — separating healthy maturity from terminal decline. The reasoning favors low-cost line extensions first, turning to full replacement or retirement only when necessary.
No database queries are required. The advisor works with the operational context you already have. It does not map new market expansion or manage customer migrations; it simply settles the diagnostic call.
What it helps with
- settle team debates over rewriting versus retiring a fading product
- evaluate product decline using a structured seven-point score
- separate distribution and channel bottlenecks from product obsolescence
- choose between extending, replacing, retiring, or harvesting an asset
Example prompts for the agent
- Our reporting module has been flat for six quarters and the team wants a rebuild. Should we extend, replace, or retire?
- Leadership wants to shut down our parts module. Help me audit whether that is the right call.
