discord — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
A skill that runs Discord messaging through OpenClaw's message tool: send, edit, delete, pin, react, plus interactive buttons. Useful when your agent needs Discord as a channel for replies and notifications.
npx skills add openclaw/openclaw --skill discord -a claude-codeWhat discord does
The skill calls OpenClaw's message tool with channel set to "discord". Which actions are on depends on your account's channels.discord.actions.* gates. The tool schema lists what is enabled, so do not assume unavailable actions.
In practice the skill leans on stable guildId, channelId, messageId and userId values from context and passes accountId when more than one Discord account could apply. If the user's reference is ambiguous, it resolves the exact message before editing, deleting, pinning, moderating or reacting. Thread replies stay in their thread; a forum parent cannot receive components, so components go to the created forum thread. Destructive and moderation actions are confirmed unless you named the exact target and action.
The components field takes a structured object or a native component array, never a placeholder string. Components v2 cannot be combined with legacy embeds. Discord mention syntax and form hints are injected automatically, and the skill follows the current tool schema rather than a duplicated action catalog.
This is worth installing if you want your agent to answer in Discord and push notifications there, and you already have channels.discord configured. Without that Discord channel set up, the skill does nothing.
What it helps with
- send a message to a Discord channel or thread from the agent
- attach Approve / Decline buttons to an agent message
- find and edit the exact message when the user's reference is vague
- pin, delete or react to a specific message on request
- post components to a forum thread instead of its parent channel
Example prompts for the agent
- Send a message to Discord `channel:123` with Approve and Decline buttons.
- Pin the last message in my Discord thread channel. Find which one first.
- Answer my Discord forum request and send the reply into the created thread.

# Discord
Use the `message` tool with `channel: "discord"`. The tool schema lists the actions enabled by the current account's `channels.discord.actions.*` gates; do not assume unavailable actions.
## Workflow
- Prefer stable `guildId`, `channelId`, `messageId`, and `userId` values from context. Pass `accountId` when more than one Discord account could apply.
- Resolve the exact message before editing, deleting, pinning, moderating, or reacting when the user's reference is ambiguous.
- Keep thread replies in their existing thread. A forum parent cannot receive components; send components to the created forum thread instead.
- Confirm destructive or moderation actions unless the user already specified the exact target and action.
## Interactive components
`components` must be a structured object or native component array, never a placeholder string. Do not combine components v2 with legacy `embeds`.
```json
{
"action": "send",
"channel": "discord",
"to": "channel:123",
"message": "Choose an option",
"components": {
"blocks": [
{
"type": "actions",
"buttons": [
{ "label": "Approve", "style": "success", "callbackData": "approve" },
{ "label": "Decline", "style": "danger", "callbackData": "decline" }
]
}
]
}
}
```
Discord mention syntax, component availability, and form hints are injected automatically. Follow the current hints and tool schema rather than a duplicated action catalog.
