skill-image-gen — GitHub Copilot plugin: what it does, how to install
Generates images from text prompts directly inside your editor. Useful when building game sprites, app icons, and mockups during coding.
copilot plugin install skill-image-gen@awesome-copilotWhat skill-image-gen does
The plugin sends prompts to image generation APIs and saves the resulting files into your workspace. It supports two options: OpenAI using gpt-image-2 and Google Gemini using gemini-2.0-flash-exp.
You need your own API key. On first use, the skill guides you through selecting a provider and setting either SKILL_IMAGE_GEN_OPENAI_KEY or SKILL_IMAGE_GEN_GEMINI_KEY.
If you create mockups or game assets while writing code, this saves you from context switching. Developers who never touch assets in their repo can safely skip it.
What it helps with
- create game sprites and textures from text prompts
- draft minimalist app logos without leaving the editor
- generate UI mockups and artwork directly into project files
- automate image API calls and file saving during coding
Example prompts for the agent
- Generate a pixel art treasure chest
- Create a grass texture for my game
- Make a minimalist logo for my app
