convert-to-md — GitHub Copilot plugin: features and setup
Converts Word, Excel, and PDF files into Markdown for GitHub Copilot. Document parsing runs behind the scenes when you query your files.
copilot plugin install convert-to-md@awesome-copilotWhat convert-to-md does
The plugin bundles three skills: convert-word-to-md, convert-excel-to-md, and convert-pdf-to-md. It turns .docx, .xlsx, and .pdf files into Markdown format so GitHub Copilot can review text, inspect tables, and pull data from them.
Conversion triggers without dedicated commands. Asking Copilot to summarize a contract or query a spreadsheet invokes the right skill on its own. For Excel files, the plugin renders every sheet as an individual Markdown table. PDF processing extracts text alongside embedded images. The tool handles individual files or entire folders at once.
What it helps with
- extract action items and key terms from Word documents
- query rows and summarize multi-sheet Excel spreadsheets
- pull text and embedded images from PDF reports
- batch-process multiple documents inside a folder
Example prompts for the agent
- Summarize this Word document and list all action items from
report.docx - What are the top 5 rows by revenue in
sales.xlsx? - Process every PDF in this folder and extract all dates
